Celebrate the beauty of the Lancashire countryside with Rolling Hills, an original handcrafted felt landscape by Lancashire-based artist Susan Wilkinson of Susie Blue Felts.
Inspired by the ever-changing colours and textures of the local landscape, this wonderfully tactile piece captures rolling hills beneath an expressive, cloud-filled sky. Layers of soft greens, ochres, earthy browns and subtle touches of colour create the impression of fields, pathways and distant hills stretching across the countryside.
Handcrafted using traditional felting techniques, Susan carefully layers wool with selected fibres, yarns and fabrics to create depth, texture and movement. Needle felting and embroidery add further detail, giving the landscape an almost painterly quality while retaining the wonderful softness and character of felt.
Susan discovered felting in 2020 and was immediately drawn to its tactile and meditative qualities. Inspired by landscapes, wildlife and the natural world, her work reflects a love of the British countryside and the changing seasons.
The name Susie Blue comes from Susan's childhood nickname, affectionately given to her by her dad, who called her “Our Susie Blue” or simply “Our Blue”.
Presented mounted and glazed in a contemporary white frame, Rolling Hills of Lancashire is a beautiful piece of original British textile art. Its natural palette makes it particularly easy to incorporate into both contemporary and traditional interiors.
