Inspired by the wild beauty of the sea, this wonderfully tactile piece depicts waves breaking against a rocky shoreline, with layers of deep blues, turquoise and foaming white fibres creating the impression of swirling water and sea spray.
Handcrafted using locally produced wool, Susan combines traditional felting techniques with carefully selected fibres to build texture, movement and depth. The result is an atmospheric original artwork where the natural qualities of the wool beautifully echo the movement of the sea.
Susan discovered felting in 2020 and was immediately drawn to its tactile and meditative qualities. Inspired by landscapes, wildlife and the natural world, she creates distinctive pieces using wool, fibres, yarns and fabrics, often adding needle felting and embroidery to bring further detail to her work.
The name Susie Blue comes from Susan's childhood nickname, affectionately given to her by her dad, who called her “Our Susie Blue” or simply “Our Blue”.
Presented mounted and glazed in a contemporary wood-effect frame, Sea Spray is a unique piece of British textile art and a lovely choice for a coastal-inspired interior.
