I recently visited the British Craft Trade Fair in Harrogate and met some really talented artists. Be it ceramics, candle making, watercolours or woodwork the UK has some fabulous small artisan makers.
Two artists caught my eye, Leamne Arias Deniz who is an artist based in Edinburgh, originally from Cuba. She has lived in 7 countries and loves illustrating cities, towns and villages with watercolour and collage using sustainable products.
The second is Caitlin Law, originally from Hertfordshire but now lives in Norwich. Caitlin creates collage illustrations mainly inspired by architecture and the built environment. She is interested in a building's cultural identity and position in personal and social history. She has developed her own brand Soodle Street which provokes wanderlust and memory.
I have commissioned a couple of pieces of art from both these artists, focusing on the beauty of our village: Croston. These pieces will be on sale as prints both in the shop and on line in the near future, with the originals on display.
In addition to these pieces of work we also have some local artists who regularly produce and sell artwork through the shop so its always worth popping in to see what's on display.
My aim is to create an exhibition in Croston later in the year of the various artwork that visually encapsulates our village in all its glory.
